What is important to the student?

  • Consider what a student prefers (likes / has an interest in)

The 5 Point Scale can be a useful tool in identifying and understanding what a student likes or dislikes.

  • It can be important to expand a student’s ‘likes’ this can be done, but it does take a lot of patience and persistence
  • Consider the ‘wants and needs’ of the student and family when designing any intervention
  • Sharing goals and strategies with the other members of the support team is essential.
