What are the Benefits of the CAPS Model?
The CAPS process was therefore designed to be used by a child’s educational team, comprising of their parents, teachers, support staff, and health professionals such as speech-language therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, psychologists, consultants, siblings, and other parties involved in the student’s education.
- The structure of the CAPS tool permits the consistent use of supports to warrant student success as well acting as a data collection process to measure the student’s level of success.
- The CAPS model promotes targeted professional development.
- As the CAPS model identifies supports for each of the student’s daily activities, educational professionals working with the student can instantly recognise the methods, supports, and structures which they may require training.
- The CAPS model helps to find the right kind of supports to fit a child s learning style and in doing so help them to reach his or her full potential.
- CAPS also enables educational professionals and other professionals working within the school environment to meet and address:
- Adequate yearly progress (AYP),
- Response to intervention (RTI), and
- Positive behavior support (PBS) in a common-sense format.
